My love story

My love story is short and sweet yet horribly romantic. I never dreamed that I would really find my Prince Charming but did I ever. My brother was stationed here at Ft. Bliss, Texas when I met my husband. One day in March I called my brother and he couldn't talk so he handed the phone to a Pfc. Evans and the rest is history. If that isn't divine intervention or whatever you would like to call it then I don't know what is! He could have handed the phone to anybody but no...he handed me to my future husband. We talked quite a bit that day.

We continued to talk day after day and our friendship grew and grew. October came around and it was time for deployment. He went to Iraq and we talked as much as possible. I knew that I was in love with him but I just couldn't admit it.  His first deployment was a scary one....lots of missions and way to many blackouts. You Army wives know what that means. One day I came home from work and found the most beautiful bouquet of red, pink and ivory roses. I had my reasons for why I couldn't let myself admit that I loved him and I wrote him a letter on myspace explaining all of it to him. I hurt so bad because I knew that I wanted to be with him and I wanted to be able to give him the love that I had in my heart. He read my letter and then was able to send a message saying that he had been called out on a mission and he would be back in a few days. You cant even imagine how long and hard those days were. We had a blackout and all I could do was just go to work and come home and lay in my bed and cry. I didn't even know if I would be able to talk to him ever again.

He called a week later and I don't even know how to describe the relief I found in hearing his voice. We then had possibly the longest phone call ever made from Iraq....all the things that stood between us were resolved and I literally just melted. It wasn't long at all before he called and said he had something to tell me....I already knew what he was going to say. I love you. I knew in that moment that I was talking to my soul mate and the man that I wanted to share my whole life with. I told him that I loved him too and we hung up the phone. I immediately walked back in my moms house and I didn't even have to tell her what happened....she could tell. He would call me several times a day (on the "off" days) just so he could say he loved me before he hung up the phone. Isn't he sweet? Once again it wasn't long until we decided that we just wanted to be together forever. He came back to the states for R&R just a few weeks after that and I know you all wanna hear how he proposed!!

It was Friday February 23, 2007...
I knew that he and my mom had been "shopping" that day so I knew it was coming! When I got off work that day I drove to my moms job (at our church, you wanna remember that) and picked him up. We got in the car and he handed me a bear that was holding a box...just handed it to me like it was nothing. I was thinking to myself please don't let this be for real, lol! I thought he was really just going to hand it to me like that. As it turns out it was a beautiful cross necklace. We went back to my moms house and just kinda did nothing until he decided that we should go out to eat. We got in my jeep and he blindfolded me..(Oh yea baby, he is sooo gunna ask me!) He drove me around for at least an hour, maybe more. He got me out of the car and led me into a dark building, up a few stairs and stopped me. He told me to take my blindfold off and when I did I was standing on the altar at my church...no lights except one spotlight on me (thanks, mom!). I looked down to see the man of my dreams proclaiming his love for me and holding the exact ring I always wanted. There aren't enough words to tell you how I felt in that moment. I felt like a princess and my Prince Charming just asked me to be his bride. We stood at the very altar we got married on. I cried for a good 3 hours. All my dreams had just come true. All of them. That is one amazing feeling.

I know that once I knew that I was in love with him that things went rather quickly but when true love happens, it happens and you can't stop it.

As an Army family we don't get a lot of time together but that just makes all the in between times that much sweeter. We now have two deployments and a lot of training days behind us and are looking forward to starting a new chapter in our lives. He is in recruiting school now and in just a few weeks we will be moving to our new home in Kentucky.

Dont Ask, Dont Tell.... If I dont ask your opinion on my life, dont tell me!! :)

This is an old blog I posted on myspace...(lol, I know I know)
For some reason several people thought that it would be okay to give me all their reasons why they thought I shouldn't marry Michael. We were friends for about a year before we decided that we wanted to be together and I guess since everybody didn't know everything about him they thought I was wrong for marrying him. I had the support of my family and real friends and that's all that mattered.

This is what I wrote....

He didn't just ask me to be his wife. He asked me to love him with my whole heart and support him no matter what. He asked me to wait for him. He asked me to let him go because other people needed him too. He knew it would be hard, but he also knew I could do it. I said yes because I wanted to wait for him…not because anybody made me. I said yes because I would be proud to wait for him. I said yes because I would prefer to spend my time missing the one I truly love than being with someone here that I don't love.

Yes the days are long, and the nights even longer. Its lonely and sometimes its way beyond me. Sometimes I don't want to get out of bed…I could just lay there until deployment is over. Some nights I lie in bed and cry because I don't know what else to do. I sleep with his shirt because it's all I have…because it smells like him…because when I close my eyes I remember him in that shirt and he is there with me. I wear his dog tags just to keep him near my heart. I know that I won't see him today…or tomorrow, or the next day. I know I won't see him this week or month…or year. But I know that one day I will, I will see him and all of this wont mean a thing.

I spend all of my time waiting…waiting for that next first kiss, the next first kiss that is going to make it all worth while. I'm waiting to be able to look into his eyes and know that I would do it all again. I'm waiting to feel his arms wrapped around me and feel the warmth and love that only he can give.

My whole heart is in Iraq, every part of me is with him…always. Some days it's so hard and it may appear to the world that I am going to break. Let me tell you that I am not. I am strong and our love is stronger than any deployment and it always will be.
I don't want to hear you say that you couldn't do it or that you don't understand why I do it. Don't worry about it. We are doing it so you don't have to and I wouldn't expect you to understand why I do it…unless you have truly loved a soldier you wouldn't. You don't know what its like to watch him walk away and be praying that it's not the last time. You don't know what its like to live with fear and worry and loneliness….everyday. I'm sure you don't want to…but you also don't know what it is like to see him again for the first time. You don't what its like to feel that sweet surrender…that release when you are back in his arms or to have that first kiss, again. You don't know what it's like to love a soldier and I can't tell you. I thank God everyday for my soldier and I wouldn't trade him for the world.

So please don't tell me that you don't get it. Please don't tell me that I don't have your blessing…I didn't ask you for it. All I ask from anyone is support and prayer. If you don't support me that's fine but please don't give me your opinions on the war or tell me how you feel about the President. To be honest, I really don't care. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion... {its called freedom of speech and incase you forgot it's because of the military that you have that right in the first place}…just because you have that right doesn't mean that you have to tell me how you feel.

I'm not saying this to be mean or to say that I am somehow better than anyone who has never loved a soldier because I'm not. That was not my intention at all. I'm just tired of people telling me that I don't have their blessing and that they don't understand it. So I wrote this to let the those people know that I am completely aware of what I am doing. I'm ready to be married to Michael Evans…he is my life, my love and my hero! I could never be any happier!
